Packing your diaper bag with Dr. Brown's

This post is sponsored by Dr. Brown's.  All opinions are 100% my own and may differ from that of yours.

A purse, of some sort, is usually always attached to a woman.  They are a sense of pride and usually a really big investment for that woman.  Than you become a mom.  Do you still carry your purse and a diaper bag, only a diaper bag, or only a purse.  Everyone has their own style, but babies, they need things.  I was never the winner at those games played at bridal showers where everyone sees what is in there purse.  Now I will trample on anyone with the contents of my bag.  Hand sanitizer, wet wipes and disinfectant spray...check, check and check.   So what makes your diaper bag complete?

I feel like packing a great diaper bag is a learned art.  Your babies needs change as well so your bags contents have to constantly evolve.  Specially in this weather you need to be prepared with items to keep baby healthy and clean.

Germs are just flying everywhere so that is when you need to turn to Dr. Brown's and their Healthy Wipes.  Healthy wipes are just one of the many things that I always keep in my diaper bag.  They make three kinds that are great for all ages: Tooth & Gum, Nose & Face, and Pacifier & Bottle wipes.

The Tooth & Gum wipes are great for after bottles or meals to make sure nothing is lingering in your little ones mouth.  They are simple to use and you wipe there gums just like you would anything else.  Now that we have a clean mouth, let's get to cleaning the one thing that is always dirty: the nose and face!  Specially with snotty colds, we are constantly wiping Nugget's nose and it can get so dry.  These wipes are free from alcohol so drying isn't an issue and they are are safe for skin and eyes.

Finally, my favorite are the Pacifier & Bottle wipes.  While I am not normally a germophobe, there are times where your baby's pacifier ends up is the grossest places.  High chairs are probably the most disgusting thing we come in contact with and I just pull out one of these and wipe that bad boy off.

When your little one is brand new, you need the most stuff to get through a day or at least you think you need the most stuff.  So what did my diaper bag look like when Nugget was newbie? Those first couple of times I left with Nugget, I felt like I packed the whole nursery. Considering we cloth diaper, space is at a premium.  I start with my diaper bag.  It is a Petunia Pickle Bottom Satchel and I LOVE IT!  It turns into a backpack, which before kids, I would have thought was really lame.  Now it is really awesome.  I feel like the size is just big enough to give me room for what I need and not to big that everything gets lost.

So you have a great bag, what do you pack in it?  This is going to depend on how old your baby is but this is what my diaper bag looked like when Nugget was a newborn:
  • Dr. Brown's Healthy Wipes
  • two burp rags
  • two outfits
  • 4-5 diapers
  • disposable wipes
  • hand sanitizer
  • wet ones
  • diaper cream
  • like 10 pacifiers
  • a wubbanub
  • a small toy (which was never once used)
  • mittens
  • socks
  • pants
  • wallet
  • keys
  • changing pad
  • bib
  • thermometer
  • nose frida
  • gas drops
The list goes on and on and I probably used one thing while I was out with him.  Being a new mom, you have no idea and you want to be prepared.  Nugget is now 12 months old and this is what I take:
  • Dr. Brown's Healthy Wipes
  • 1 Gerber prefold as burp rag
  • 1 onesie
  • 2 diapers
  • cloth wipes
  • wipe spray
  • diaper cream
  • a wubbanub
  • 18 trillion toys
  • changing pad
  • and my wallet
I still carry to much stuff.  So what is your must have in your diaper bag for the winter months?

We are giving away a set of Healthy Wipes so you can always be prepared in these cold, germy months.  Enter below!

Natural in the New Year Giveaway Hop - Baby Bullet #NaturalNewYear

Disclosure: I have received this product in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are 100% my own and may differ from yours.  My Jordanian Nugget is not responsible for shipment of prizes.

Welcome to the Natural in the New Year Giveaway Hop hosted by the Blogging Mamas Network. The New Year always sparks a desire in me to better my life. One of the things that I love to work on is living a more natural life.  I've joined a group of 30 other bloggers that have come together to help you do just that!  Each blog in the linky below has a natural prize to give away worth at least $25!  So, join us all by going more Natural in the New Year!
Babies create situations where there is a lot of waste and with that they also bring lots of opportunity to do things a bit more natural. I try to minimize the waste created by my baby every day. We use cloth diapers and wipes instead of disposables. I use reusable breast pads instead of disposable. When looking for toys, I much prefer recycled materials or long lasting ones that will make for less waste.

With all the effort I put into my baby having a smaller carbon footprint, it would be silly to not make sure that feeding him was done in the an eco-friendly manner as well, right? There is a lot of waste that goes into feeding babies: jars, pouches, and wasted food. Not to mention most of the baby food out there is extremely processed. I don't put all this effort into breastfeeding to then feed my baby crap when it comes time to introduce solids. One of the best ways to avoid this is to make your own baby food. In this giveaway, I am bringing you the Baby Bullet which helps you do just that! Turn the vegetables and fruit that you have in your house into wholesome, natural baby food. Best part? It is quick and easy! Enter to win one below!

Fanny Foozle and the Fantuckle Festival

Disclosure: I have received product unrelated to this post in exchange for the review of this application.  All opinions are 100% my own and may differ from that of yours.

Nugget is only 10 months old so there is really no need for him to be playing with a phone...no need, yes...does he?  I try not to let him... Anyway.  I do try to have some apps on there when desperate times call for desperate measures.  Sometimes I just need to distract him.  The app I am talking about today is a fun reading app for all ages, Fanny Foozle.

When you open up Fanny Foozle you will be able to choose if you want to read or if you want Fanny to read to you.  We usually pick Read Along because Nugget is still very small.  Fanny Foozle is a wonderful story full of alliteration about the town of Flamboozle and the Fantukle Festival.

Everyone in the town is getting ready for the festival and waiting for the four leaf Fantuckle to bloom.  This flower only blooms once a year and only if everyone in Flamboozle is in a cheerful mood.  The whole town gathers and waits for the flower but it doesn't bloom.  They later find Fanny Foozle is sad because his foodle dog had run away.  Naturally everyone fanned out and searched all of Flamboozle to find the Foodle dog Sam to save the Fantuckle Festival.

The town soon found the foodle dog and got the festival underway.  Everyone is laughing and singing and the Fantuckle bloomed.

Fanny Foozle is great to teach reading and working together to reach a goal.  The colors are bright for little ones and the pictures are simple and easy to follow.  You children can follow Fanny Foozle on Facebook, You tube and Twitter.  The app is available free through iTunes and Android stores and can be purchased for $1.99 in the Kindle Store.

We are giving away one Fanny Foozle book!  Enter Below!

Travelin' Toddler Gift Guide Day 9: Peter Rabbits Organics + #Giveaway

Disclosure: I have recieved this product in exchange for me honest review.  The opinions are 100% my own and may differ from yours.

The first time I discovered Peter Rabbit Organics was in on of my Bluum boxes.  If you haven't checked out Bluum yet, head over to their website.  It is a great way to try new products that are delivered right to your door.  At the time, I wasn't sure if I was going to feed any purees but I didn't want this pouch to get wasted.  I gave it a go and man did Nugget love it!  I tried it too and the taste was fantastic.  The first one I ever tried was the Pea, Spinach and Apple.  I couldn't believe they were able to make this mixture taste soooo good.  I have said more than once that I need to figure out a recipe that I could create to add these in.

Peter Rabbit Organics Pouches are now a staple in my diaper bag for on-the-go feedings.  Moms can feel good about giving their kids Peter Rabbits because they are 100% organic.  The one I mentioned above contains Organic Pea, Organic Spinach, Organic Apples and Organic Lemon Juice...that's it.  No chemicals and nothing artificial.  Top it off with a no-choke lid and you are good to go.  They do not need to be refrigerated until they are open, making it easy to store them in your bag.

Peter Rabbit Organics is suitable for babies 6 month and older.  In additional to being organic, they have no added sugars or salt.  To keep your little ones with allergies safe, the pouches are made in a nut-free facility, too.  You can pick up Peter Rabbit Organics Pouch at your local Walmart or any of these stores as well as Amazon.  They will make a great stocking stuffer for the holidays!  My Jordanian Nugget has also teamed with Peter Rabbit Organics to giveaway a 10 pack of pouches to one lucky reader.

Santa's Little Helper Giveaway Hop: Boba Air! #SantasLilHelper

santaslittlehelper

Welcome to the Santa's Little Helper Giveaway Hop, hosted by Viva Veltoro and So Easy Being Green!
We all know that everyone could use a little help around the Holidays, so for this Event I've teamed up with over 50 other bloggers to be your Santa's Little Helper... giving away prizes that anyone would want to see under the tree! You might find the perfect gift for a little one on your list - or even for yourself, so hop around to all the blogs, including the GRAND PRIZE, on the linky at the bottom of this post!

Happy Holidays!

In this Hop I have one of my items from the Travelin' Toddler Gift Guide.  What better gift for your tot on-the-go than a super compact carrier.  Boba brings your the Boba Air which is probably the smallest, lightest carrier I have seen to date.  Shauna is a  stay at home mom to one beautiful little girl.  She tells us about how the Boba Air fits into here babywearing repertoire.

I love to baby wear.  And thankfully, my baby loves it too!  We get snuggle time, while I am also getting things done. It is definitely a win win. I have used many carriers, including a ring sling, mei tai, and a wrap but the Boba 3G is definitely my favorite. So I was really excited to try the Boba Air!
Baby wearing while running errands is a must! However, there have been a few times that I used a carrier in the house and forgot to put it back in the car. Every new mother knows that getting yourself and baby out the door and to your destination, is not the easiest thing.  Arriving there and realizing you forgot your baby carrier is the worst!
That’s what makes the Boba Air great!  It folds into itself and becomes a small zippered pouch that can easily be stored in your diaper bag to always have on hand.  It is made of 100% nylon so it is super lightweight - 0.7 pounds to be exact.  No need to worry about it weighing down your diaper bag!
The Boba Air goes on just like the Boba 3G and can be worn on your front or back. I have only worn it on my front so far, as my daughter is still too small to be worn on my back.
When I first saw the Boba Air, one thing that concerned me was its lack of cushioning.  I was afraid it wouldn not be very comfortable.  This turned out to be a non-issue.  Once I got it on and adjusted, both my little one and I were very comfortable.  It does take a little adjusting of the straps, tightening or loosening them, to get the proper fit.  I have used the Boba Air for 2+ hour trips to the mall with no complaints.
My baby is currently 15 lbs.  As she grows, I may not be wearing the Boba Air for extended periods of time (but who knows?!).  I do think it will still be a great carrier to have on hand for quick trips to the grocery store or Target.  I also think it will be great in the summer because it is thin and lightweight and will help keep us both cool.  Since it is nylon, it can get wet and will dry quickly making it the perfect carrier to bring to the beach or the pool.

Because of its convenience, compact size, and ease of use, I now use the Boba Air more than any other carrier.  I’m so glad I have this versatile carrier in my collection!  Want to buy a Boba Air?  Head over to Boba's website or pick one up on Amazon.  You are also able to enter to win one below!

Merry Fluffy Christmas Giveaway Now Open- $58 prize package! #FluffyXmas

MFC button_lg

Welcome to the greatly anticipated 4th annual Merry Fluffy Christmas Giveaway Event!! There are 56 blogs that are giving away cloth diapering prize packages $50+! Make sure you enter here and then hop to all the others!! There are thousands in fluffy prizes to be won! This year, there are also two HUGE Grand Prize packages, on both of the host blogs, And Then There Were 5 and Mommy’s Favorite Things! So make sure you enter to win those as well! Good luck!

For this giveaway I am bringing you a prize pack that includes two diapers that I am trying for the first time and my favorite wipe solution. Both of the diapers that I picked for this giveaway are incredibly versatile and are much different than most mainstream brands.

The Buttons Diaper system offers a snap in diaper. Their covers have a signature button on the bum that is super cute. Inside the diaper in a snap in the front and the back. The covers are one-sized and paired with your choice in size of inserts. The inserts are much more absorbent than others I have used. Once the diaper is soiled, just snap in a new insert and you are good to go. Check out Buttons Diapers now! The Prize pack includes one diaper cover and 2 day time inserts!

Rock-a-Bums diapers offer a 5-in-1 system that lets you decide what kind of diaper you would like to use. No joke, this diaper can be used as: a cover, a pocket diaper, an AIO, an AI2 or a hybrid diaper. Not only can this diaper do it all, I love it because the color scheme is a little more hard core than you typically find in the cloth diaper world. The prize pack includes a Rock-a-Bums diaper in your choice of closure and color, 2 inserts and a wet bag!

When you are cloth diapering, I find it counterproductive to use disposable wipes. Not only are you still throwing something away, cloth wipes work sooo much better. I have tried a ton of wipe sprays and landed on my favorite! Lovey's Tushi Wash is that spray for so many reasons. The smell is great. The cost is reasonable and although not that important, the bottle is easy to dispense. Lovey's is all natural and not only for the diaper area. It can be used to clean messy faces and hands as well. The prize pack will include a 4 oz bottle of Lovey's Tushi Wash!

Travelin' Toddler Gift Guide Day 7: Carry those tots with the Rockin' Baby Sling + #Giveaway

Disclosure: I have received this product in exchange for my honest review.  The opinions are 100% my own and may differ from yours.

If you read along, you know that I love babywearing!  When people ask me what carrier they should get, I can never come up with just one answer.  Every different style has a purpose.  If someone says they are looking for something quick, easy and fits in their diaper bag I usually suggest a ring sling.  Today we are bringing you not only a great ring sling but also a way to help out mothers in need.

Rockin' Baby Slings is on a mission to provide mothers in Haiti with slings and educate them on their importance.  For every sling they sell, one is given to a mother in Haiti.  This sling will allow her to nurture, bond and breastfeed her child while continue to do the work that is required to support her family.  You know how much babywearing helps you in your day to day, so just imagine how much it will help these mothers.

The Rockin' Baby Sling is one size fits most. I am 120lb, 5'3 and the tail hits above knee level.  It is made from 100% sturdy cotton and has a great zipper pocket to hold your essentials.  The sling that we are trying out today is their Hero Sling in a bright orange with red sling rings.  Nugget is pretty heavy and the sling's fabric is supportive and distributes the weight evenly.

You are able to purchase your own Hero sling and support the mission to get these slings to mother's in Haiti by visiting Rockin' Baby's website.  My Jordanian Nugget is also giving away one for the holidays!

Travelin' Toddler Gift Guide Day 6: Dress that Tot to Travel w/ RockMe + a #Giveaway

Disclosure: I have received this product in exchange for an honest review.  The opinions are 100% my own and may differ from yours.

I know when I am getting ready to go on a big trip I always think about what I am going to wear while traveling.  I want comfort and functionality and most of the time I end up looking like a slob.  Don't do that to your little one.  They can travel in style with Rock Me's great collection of essential wardrobe items for that Tot on-the-go.

When I am thinking about how to dress Nugget, I want something that will: 1. Keep him warm, 2. Be easy to change a diaper in 3. Be comfortable for him.  I prefer two piece outfits because they look best but sometimes pants and an active baby can be a real struggle.  There is also that issue of when you pick up your baby, their back and stomach show in two piece outfits.

Rock Me has created a BRILLIANT solution to this problem and basically made the ideal travel outfit for little ones.  Rock Me outfits have no snap, zippers or buttons and have all the benefits of a one piece with the look and style of a two piece. They are made of the softest cotton. Better yet, these one-piece separates are designed, created and manufactured in the USA.

So what makes Rock Me so special?  The Rock Me "seperates" are only open in the back.  The pants are connected to the top with a seperate piece of fabric that is different than the shirt.  This is how they made a one-piece that still looks like a two piece.  Hard to explain, but the video shows you how it works.

The sizing is generous.  Nugget typically wears a 12 or 18 months in Carters.  He has room to grow in the 9-12 month Rock Me.   He is about 30 inches tall and 22lbs.  Rock Me makes a great gift for your little traveler and gives the parent a break from the constant reinserting of the legs in the leg holes (yes, this outfit stops that!)

You are able to purchase Rock Me in select stores or on their website. They would love for you to sign up for their newsletter and check them out on Facebook.  We are giving away a One Piece wonder for the holidays, as well.

Travelin' Toddler Gift Guide Day 5: HALO Cable Knit SleepSack + #Giveaway

Disclosure: I have received a HALO SleepSack in exchange for my review.  The opinions are 100% my own.

Our family loves HALO SleepSacks.  We have tried the micro-fleece, the cotton and today we are reviewing the cable-knit.  Although every SleepSack would make a perfect gift, I think this one is just a little fancier and therefore making my Gift Guide this year.  What better present for your little one than safe sleepwear and a comfy blanket all in one.  I love the SleepSacks for traveling because you don't' have to fumble with a blanket on the plane saving your baby from all the germs that can be picked up from a dropped blanket.

HALO Innovation's SleepSack wearable blankets have become the standard for hospital nurseries and parents alike.  In fact, 1,000 hospital nurseries use the HALO SleepSack Swaddle instead of blanket through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Initiative.  HALO Innovations also offers free Safe Sleep Practices kits to childbirth educations to help further the cause of SIDS prevention.

What is SIDS?  This is the sudden death of an infant less than 1 year of age that occurs suddenly and unexpectedly.  There is a type of sleep related  SIDS that is associated with airway obstruction in the sleep environment caused by suffocation by soft bedding, another person rolling on the infant, becoming wedged between two object, or strangulation.  To counteract these dangers, we need to create a safe sleep environment for our little ones.

Safe Sleep Practices begin with:

ALWAYS
  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at nap time and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
NEVER
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

Make sure that you are providing a Safe Sleep environment for your baby.  Ditch the blankets and pick up a HALO cable knit SleepSack today!  They are available at Amazon and Target.com.  My Jordanian Nugget is also giving away one for the holiday, too.

You can stay up to date with HALO on TwitterFacebook, Instagram and Pinterest!

Travelin' Toddler Gift Guide Day 4: Yoomi Feeding System + #Giveaway

Disclosure: I have received this product in exchange for my honest review.  The opinions are 100% my own and may differ from yours.

If you travel with your baby, you have probably come across the dilemma of how to heat up their milk.  I breastfeed and still have to offer a bottle sometimes in the car and the only way to offer it would be cold.  Well, I came across a product that will make sure that your baby is always given warm milk.   This is very convenient if you baby will just not take their milk cold.  This amazing product is the Yoomi feeding system.

When you open the Yoomi, you will find a cap, easi-latch nipple, collar, bottle, warmer and the pod.  They are able to be used separately, or together to create the feeding system.  After going through the steps to charge your warmer, your Yoomi will heat your milk to the exact temperature of breast milk.  So how does it work?

The part of the Yoomi that will warm the breast milk or formula is the warmer.  You place the warmer in the pod and put it into the microwave for 60 seconds.  You then give that pod a shake to see if you can hear the warmer.  If you can, then you shake for a full 30 seconds and heat for another 30 seconds.  Remove the pod from the microwave and shake for another 10 seconds.  This will charge your Yoomi for the first time.  You are able to recharge your Yoomi by using this same Heat, Shake, Heat method.  After you have charged your warmer, you will need to let it cool before using.  You can either let it sit for 75 minutes or place it in a cold bowl of water for 20 minutes.  This was the only inconvenient part I found using this system, but if you were preparing to travel, this wouldn't really matter because you would just plan ahead of time.

After you have cooled the warmer you can put it in the nipple and screw on the bottle full of milk.  You press the red button firmly and wait to feel the heat.  Wait 30 seconds and then flip the bottle over, wait another 30 seconds and you are good to go on feeding.

So did it really work?  I tested the water prior to adding to the bottle and after.  This was the before:

The water was 66 degrees and cold to the touch.  This was after:

The water coming out got up as high as 83 degrees and was definitely more pleasant temperature.  I bet the water was actually warmer but I didn't have a good way of measuring it since such a small amount comes out of the nipple.

So here is my overall opinion:

The Yoomi is solving a big problem that many parents have.  Yes, you could just get your child used to cold milk, but there will still be babies that scream and refuse to eat it.  I see this being very useful for car rides where you don't want to stop to nurse or for airports when your little one may be too distracted to nurse.  Want to pick up an Yoomi feeding system?  Use coupon code MODERNMUMMY to receive 15% off anything on their website.  You can also enter to win a full system below!

There are just two concerns I have.  I wish I could use it as soon as I am done recharging it.  If I let it cool on its own, 75 minutes is a long time.  Another is the weight.  The warmer is pretty heavy and when you are wrangling a crazy octopus baby, it could be inconvenient.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons and I still think that it is near magical how it heats up the liquid so quickly.  What do you think?  Have you heard of the Yoomi?  If this a product that you would use?  Would it make your life easier?  Tell me below.
